Challah bread

Before making this, I thought making bread at home was a tough procedure. but to my surprise, it was so easy and turned out good.

Ingredients

  1. 3 cup maida or bread flour

  2. 1/4 cup sugar

  3. 1/4 tsp sugar (yeast activation)

  4. 2 1/4 tsp dry yeast

  5. 1/4 cup oil

  6. 1 1/4 cup water ( add 1 cup first and add little later if required)

  7. 1/2 tsp salt

  8. Milk or egg ( to add shine to bread)

  9. 2 tsp sesame seeds (optional)

Procedure:

  1. Mix warm water, sugar and yeast and let it bloom for 10 minutes. If yeast didn't bloom discard and make again.

  2. Instant dry yeast can be added directly.

  3. In a bowl mix the flour, sugar, salt, oil and yeast mixture.

  4. kneed into a soft dough, once all are combined transfer the dough to the workspace and kneed well to form a smooth dough.

  5. Apply bit oil and keep it aside for about 2 hours. ( in summer the dough doubles soon and in winter it takes more time).

  6. Divide the dough into two parts and braid the dough. Set it aside for another 30 minutes to rise.

  7. Brush some milk or egg, sprinkle some sesame seeds and pop into the preheated oven. Bake at 200-degree celsius or set according to your oven temperature for 25-30 minutes.

  8. Apply little butter for enhanced glaze.
